This page explains how you should complete the application form for tier 2 of the points-based system if you are making your first application in this category.

You can download the application form from the right of this page.

The information below tells you which sections are relevant and gives a brief guide to the information needed in the application form for the minister of religion category. A full guide to what is needed in each section is given in the policy guidance, which you can download from the right of this page. You should read this before you fill in the application form.

Section A - payment details

Page 1 of the application form contains the payment details. The current fees and details of how you can pay are on the costs page.

Section B - personal details

Fill in this section of the application form fully. If you do not give all your personal details we will not process your application.

Section C - passport or travel document details

Give details of your current and all previous passports and travel documents.

Section D - immigration history

Give details of your current immigration category, where and when you obtained it and when your permission to stay ends.

Sections E - personal history

Fill in this section of the application form fully. The information you provide in this section may be checked with other agencies, so you should make sure you include all relevant details. If you need to you can continue your answers to this section on a separate sheet of paper.

Section F - dependant details

Give the name, date of birth, nationality and passport number and the relationship to you of any dependants you want to join or stay with you.

Section G - sponsor contact details

Give the name and address of your sponsor and tell us if you have any shares in their company.

Section H - job details

Give your current certificate of sponsorship reference number, and any previous certificate of sponsorship reference numbers you have had, your job title and salary.

Section J - attributes

Tell us if you are claiming points for sponsorship and qualifications and tell us of your future expected earnings. The supporting evidence you send will depend on whether you are making an initial application or extension application.

Section K - maintenance (funds)

Tell us if you are claiming points for maintenance (funds). See the supporting evidence page for maintenance (funds) for full details of the documents you should send with your application.

If you are applying to extend your stay and have already proved your maintenance (funds), you will not have to send supporting documents again.

Section L - English language

Tell us if you are claiming points for English language. See the supporting evidence page for English language for full details of the documents you should send with your application.

If you are applying to extend your stay and have already proven your English language skills, you will not have to send supporting documents again.

Section M - public funds

You should fill in this section even if you are not receiving any public funds.

Section N - applicant declaration

Sign and date your finished application form. Your application will not be valid unless you fill in this section.

Section O - representative details and declaration

Only fill in this section if a legal representative is making the application on your behalf.

Terms explained

  • Public funds

    Public funds are income-related benefits paid by the state. They include income support, income-based job seekers allowance, housing and homelessness assistance, housing and council tax benefit, working families' tax credit, a social fund payment, child benefit and any disability allowance. Benefits paid as a result of contributions, such as the state pension, are not considered to be public funds. Social housing is not considered to be a public fund either. Claiming public funds when you are not eligible is known as benefit fraud and it is a criminal offence.
