Tier 2 (General)

Post-study worker

This page explains the proof of working that you must send if you are applying to switch from a post-study worker category into Tier 2 (General) of the points-based system.

What documents you must send

You must send two pieces of evidence that you have worked for your sponsor for at least the last six months before you apply. (You do not need to have worked in the same job for the full six months.)

The documents are:

Payslips

These should be either formal payslips or on company-headed paper. If payslips are not on headed paper or you only have online pay slips, you must get your employer's signature and stamp on a print-out to confirm the payslip.

Payslips must cover the whole time claimed. For example, if your payslips are monthly, you must send us every monthly payslip for the time claimed.

Personal bank or building society statements covering the six months before you apply

Your personal bank or building society statements should clearly show:

  • your name;
  • your account number;
  • the date of the statement;
  • the financial institution's name and logo; and
  • payments from your sponsor over the six months.

The most recent statement must be dated within one month of when you apply.

If you want to send electronic bank statements from an online account, these must contain all of the details listed above. They must bear the official stamp of the bank on every page, or you must also provide a supporting letter from your bank, on company headed paper, confirming the authenticity of the statements sent.

Building society pass book covering the six months before you apply

The building society pass book should clearly show:

  • your name;
  • your account number;
  • the financial institution's name and logo; and
  • payments from your sponsor over the six months.

Letter from sponsor confirming you have been working for them for at least six months before you apply

The letter from your sponsor should show:

  • your name;
  • the date of the letter; and
  • their name and logo.

You should provide full contact details for each document, so that we can check all your supporting documents if we need to.
