Self assessment

This section includes our points-based calculator which is an interactive self-assessment tool that allows you to calculate how many points you may be awarded under the entrepreneur category (Tier 1 Entrepreneur) of the points-based system to allow you to work in business in the United Kingdom.

It should take no more than ten minutes to complete. You should read the section on eligibility first, to make sure you meet the requirements to apply.

What information you will need for an initial application

To fill in the tool, you will need the following information if you are making an initial application:

  • access to £200,000;
  • the money is in a regulated financial institution;
  • the money is disposable in the United Kingdom;
  • your English language skills; and
  • maintenance (funds) available.

What information you will need for an extension application

To fill in the tool, you will need the following information if you are making an extension application:

  • invested £200,000 in to a United Kingdom business;
  • registered for business within three months;
  • engaged in business activity;
  • new employment created;
  • your English language skills; and
  • maintenance (funds) available.

Once you have filled in all the questions, your points are calculated. You must score a total of 75 points for attributes. In addition, you must also score 10 points each for English language skills and maintenance. Therefore, you will need a total of at least 95 points to be able to apply.

Calculate your points using the points-based calculator.

The UK Border Agency and UK NARIC now recognise the INSEAD MBA at Master's degree level and award points at that level. Our points-based calculator will be updated in due course.
