You will need to give the following details in your letter:

  • your full name; and
  • your date of birth; and
  • your nationality; and
  • any recorded delivery number you have from when you sent your application form; and
  • the date on which the application was posted or delivered by courier; and
  • the Home Office reference number, if you have one.

For all applications we recommend that you use recorded or special delivery, as this helps us to record the receipt of your application. Please make sure that you keep a record of the recorded or special delivery number.

We will return your passport(s) and other documents by recorded delivery. If you would like them to be returned by special delivery, you must provide a prepaid special delivery envelope big enough for the documents to be returned.
