Tier 1 (General)
Applications by dependants
This section explains how your family members can apply to enter or remain in the UK if you are here under, or are applying under, Tier 1 (General) of the points-based system.
Tier 1 (General) is now closed to applications from abroad
The UK Border Agency has stopped accepting Tier 1 (General) applications made overseas, from 00:01 on 23 December 2010.Full details of these requirements are in the Immigration Rules at paragraph 319A-K of part 8, which you can find on the right side of this page. You must read the policy guidance before you apply under this category.
How dependants can come to the UK
If your application to the points-based system is successful, your dependants (children under 18 years of age, or your husband, wife, civil partner, unmarried partner or same-sex partner) can apply for permission to join you in the UK.
Our Visa services section explains how they can apply.
How dependants can extend their stay
If you have dependants who wish to remain with you in the UK, you or they should complete the separate dependant application form. You can download this form from the right side of this page.
Each dependant should state on their application form whether they are submitting their application at the same time as your application.
They should also state the category under which you have made an application.
