Can you apply?

This page explains the requirements that you must meet to come to the UK as a domestic worker in a private household.

You must obtain a visa before you travel here.

When you apply for a visa, you must have been working for at least 1 year immediately before your application:

  • as a domestic worker in the same house as your employer; or
  • in a household that your employer uses on a regular basis, and there is evidence of a connection between you and the employer.

You must intend to work full-time in the UK as a domestic worker:

  • in the house that your employer is living in; or
  • in a household that the employer uses regularly, if you can show that there is a clear connection between you and the employer.

Also, you must:

  • be aged between 18 and 65; and
  • intend to travel to the UK with your employer, your employer's spouse or civil partner, or your employer's child aged under 18; and
  • not intend to work in the UK except as a domestic worker; and
  • be able to support yourself and any dependants without the need for public funds.
