New list of approved English language tests
06 April 2011
Today we have launched a new list of approved English language tests (PDF 253KB opens in a new window) for:
- applications under Tiers 1, 2 and 4 of the points-based system; and
- applications by spouses and partners.
When the transitional arrangements listed below have expired, this new list will replace all existing lists of English language test providers.
Transitional arrangements - Tiers 1 and 2
If you apply under Tier 1 or Tier 2, and we receive your application on or before 17 May 2011, you can demonstrate your English language ability using a test (whether booked or taken) that is on the relevant existing list of approved tests. You can find these lists in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 sections of this website.
From 18 May 2011, only tests on the new list can be used to demonstrate your English language ability as part of a Tier 1 or Tier 2 application.
Transitional arrangements - spouses and partners
If you apply as a spouse or partner, and we receive your application on or before 17 July 2011, you can demonstrate your English language ability using a test (whether booked or taken) that is on the existing list of approved tests for partners.
From 18 July 2011, only tests on the new list can be used to demonstrate your English language ability as part of a spouse or partner application.
Tier 4
There are no transitional arrangements for Tier 4 of the points-based system, as we are expanding the current list of providers.
From 6 April 2011, you can demonstrate your English language ability using a test that is on the new list of approved tests.
