Nine charged with sham marriage conspiracy

Eight people from Luton and 1 from Leighton Buzzard have been charged with immigration offences in relation to the arrangement of a series of alleged sham marriages and civil partnerships.

Six of those charged appeared at Luton magistrates court on 9 February 2012 and were bailed.

Kamila Drozdowska, 28, of Bute Street, Luton; Tera Miah, 58, of Hitchin Road, Luton; Mariusz Rohde, 28, of Hitchin Road, Luton; Dorota Wysocka, 45, of Studley Road, Luton; Aneta Szczepanik, 35, of Kingsland Road, Luton; and Katarzyna Potrykus, 40, of Cowper Road, Luton, were all charged with conspiracy to facilitate a breach of the UK's immigration laws.

Three other suspects appeared before Luton magistrates court on 2 February and were remanded in custody. Mohammed Dolon Miah, 35, of Spencer Road, Luton; and Mohammed Razul Miah, 35, of Mill Road, Leighton Buzzard. Both charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of the UK's immigration laws and conspiracy to withhold criminal property.

Gyash Uddin, 39, of Ivy Road, Luton was charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of the UK's immigration laws and conspiracy to withhold criminal property and fraud offences.

All 9 defendants will appear at Luton crown court on 23 April for a plea and case management hearing.

The charges relate to the arrangements for 8 alleged sham marriages or civil partnerships which have been investigated by the UK Border Agency's criminal and financial investigations team.
