Two illegal immigrants are facing removal following raids by the UK Border Agency in Watford.
A 37-year-old Filipino woman was arrested at an address in Market Street and a 24-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at an address in Clare Court. Both had overstayed their visas and had stayed in the United Kingdom illegally.
Both have been placed in UK Border Agency detention while arrangements are made for their removal.
The UK Border Agency was accompanied by officers from the Professional Development Unit of Hertfordshire Constabulary on the intelligence led visits on the morning of 5 November 2009.
Immigration Officer Debra Johnson, from the Local Immigration Team for Essex and Herts, said:
'Yesterday's successful operation demonstrates our commitment to crack down on those living and working in the UK unlawfully.'
The operation comes at a time of massive reform to the United Kingdom's immigration system. A tough, Australian-style points based system for managing immigration was recently introduced, ensuring that only those with the skills required by the United Kingdom are allowed to work here. Fingerprint visas are being rolled out across the globe to prevent people coming to the United Kingdom on a false identity, while identity cards for foreign nationals have recently been introduced.
