Escape of foreign national prisoner - UK Border Agency response

The UK Border Agency has responded to the escape from custody of a foreign national prisoner. Imtiaz Hussain, who is presumed to be Pakistani, escaped from security guards contracted by the agency who had escorted him to the Pakistan High Commission to be considered for deportation documentation.

David Wood, head of criminality and detention for the UK Border Agency, said:

'A 44-year-old male has absconded whilst on an escorted visit to the High Commission in London.

'Police were immediately informed. His details have been placed on the Police National Computer and watch-lists. We are actively searching for this individual to return him in to custody and remove him from the UK.'

The escape is being investigated by the UK Border Agency.

Police have described Hussain as Asian, approximately 5'5" (165cm) tall, of medium to chubby build, with dark cropped hair and wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and white trainers. He escaped from the High Commission building in Lowndes Square, London SW1X at approximately 1435 on Friday 30 October. Before his imprisonment he had ben living in Derbyshire. Members of the public are being warned not to approach him, but to alert police immediately if they see him.
