Biometric enrolment - evaluation of a pilot project

The identity card for foreign nationals contains biometric information (fingerprints and photograph) about the holder. Before the first cards were introduced in November 2008, we carried out a pilot project at our public enquiry office in Croydon to assess the process for migrants to enrol their biometric information.

The pilot successfully demonstrated that the process was effective and the technology resilient enough to enable the programme to proceed to full implementation. These findings are summarised in the document below, which was published in October 2008.
