Consultation by the Migration Advisory Committee on the level of an annual limit on economic migration to the UK

Between June and September 2010, the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) carried out a consultation on the level of the first annual limit on economic migration.

On 28 June 2010, the government launched a consultation on how the limits on economic migration by nationals of countries outside the European Union, through Tiers 1 and 2 of the points-based system, should be implemented.

It also announced a parallel consultation, to be led by the MAC, on the levels at which the limits should be set for the first full year of their operation. In developing its advice, the MAC has consulted on and is considering the economic, social and public service impacts of migration.
