Migration Advisory Committee report: Review of the UK's transitional measures for nationals of member states that acceded to the European Union in 2004

In April 2009, the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) published a report examining how the United Kingdom labour market would be affected if the government relaxed its transitional measures in respect of labour market access for nationals of the 'A8' countries.

The government had asked the MAC for advice on whether it would be sensible to relax these measures, taking any issues relating to Scotland into account (if appropriate). It had also asked the MAC to consider whether the Worker Registration Scheme (WRS)should come to an end before 2011.

The MAC advised that the transitional measures and the WRS should remain in place. The government announced that it accepted the MAC's advice and would retain both.
