What if my circumstances change?

This page explains what you should do if your immigration status changes after you have registered for our iris recognition immigration system (IRIS).

Your United Kingdom immigration status depends on whether or not there are restrictions on your ability to enter or stay in the United Kingdom. You must tell us if your immigration status changes after you have registered, for example because you have changed to a different category of visa or you stop being a permanent resident of the United Kingdom.

You can do this next time you travel, by asking staff at the enrolment room to update your record appropriately or asking an immigration officer when you arrive in the United Kingdom. You must not use the IRIS barrier.

If there are any changes to your IRIS record, such as a new passport or travel document, change of name, or new permission to enter or stay in the United Kingdom, you must make these changes in person by visiting the IRIS enrolment room. You must do this in person so that we can find your correct iris pattern and amend your details.

If your immigration status or circumstances relevant to your IRIS registration change in the United Kingdom, you must also tell us by writing to:

UK Border Agency (IRIS)
PO Box 512
Hayes
UB3 9AZ.

Please do not use this address to send us immigration applications or general enquiries that do not relate to IRIS. For contact details for other areas of our work, see Contact.
