National Minimum Wage legislation
This is the law that sets out the rights of nearly all workers in the United Kingdom aged 16 or over to be paid a minimum amount for each hour they work.

National Recognition Information Centre
Also known as UK NARIC. The United Kingdom agency that is the official source of information on international qualifications and how they compare with qualifications gained in the United Kingdom

Nationality
This may be the same as your citizenship, but it is possible to hold a nationality of a country without being a citizen of that country. For example, British subjects are British nationals but not British citizens.

Nationality checking service
This is a service run by a number of local authorities to check naturalisation applications, copy documents and send complete applications to the UK Border Agency.

Naturalisation
Naturalisation is a legal process by which someone with no automatic claim to British citizenship can become a British citizen and obtain the same rights and privileges as someone who was born a British citizen. You can normally apply for naturalisation as a British citizen if you have lived in the United Kingdom for 5 years or more, or are married to a British citizen and have lived in the United Kingdom for 3 years or more. Naturalised in the United Kingdom
A term that describes someone who was not born a British citizen but became one through the legal process of naturalisation.

Net dividend
The amount of money you receive as profit on an investment after any official deductions have been made.

Net profit
The amount of money actually earned by a business after all expenses have been deducted.

Non-pastoral role
Are duties not included in the role of a non-pastoral religious worker which include leading worship regularly and on special occasions; providing religious education for children and adults by preaching or teaching; officiating at marriages, funerals and other special services; offering counselling and welfare support to members of the congregation; recruiting, training and co-ordinating the work of any local volunteers and lay preachers.

Non-visa national
A non-visa national is a national or citizen of any country that is NOT listed in Appendix 1 of the immigration rules (nationals of countries listed in Appendix 1 are visa nationals). A non-visa national does not need a visa to come to the United Kingdom for less than six months, unless it is a requirement of the immigration category under which they are entering. A non-visa national coming to the United Kingdom for more than six months will need a visa.

Notary
A notary is also known as a notary public. A notary is a public official who is legally authorised to witness the signing of documents and perform other formal duties.

NVQ level 3
National Vocational Qualifications level 3 is a qualification that shows competence that involves the application of knowledge in a broad range of varied work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine. There is considerable responsibility and autonomy and control or guidance of others is often required.
