Contact

This page gives details of organisations that may be able to give you help or useful information while you are working in the UK.

We have two contact centres that you may find useful during your stay in the UK:

  • our work permits and Accession State customer contact centre can answer general enquiries about work permits and accession worker cards
  • our immigration enquiry bureau can answer questions about your immigration status (for example, how to apply for a residence card when you have been in the UK for 12 months)

You can find both helplines' contact details under 'Contact' on the right side of this page.

Employment rights

For information about migrant workers' employment rights in the UK, including basic information in other languages, see the Directgov website.

The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) can also provide free advice about your employment rights. However, ACAS cannot give you advice about work permits or accession worker cards.

Tax and National Insurance

For information about obtaining a National Insurance number, you should contact:

  • Directgov if you are in England, Scotland or Wales; or
  • NI Direct if you are in Northern Ireland.

For information about tax and National Insurance contributions, or to register if you are self-employed, visit the HM Revenue & Customs website or phone 0845 915 4515.
