Tier 4 - students

This page explains how points will be awarded to migrants under tier 4 - student of the points-based system to study. The information is based on our statement of intent published on 30 July 2008. The information on this page will be updated as we continue to develop the policy over the next few months.

How points are awarded for the student categories

You should check any students are likely to score a total of 40 points across the different criteria, before issuing them with your confirmation of acceptance for studies.

Criteria for points What we award points for Points awarded

Sponsorship

  • up to 30 points available
A valid confirmation of acceptance for studies, which is issued if you believe the student is capable of doing and intends to do the course and the course is at the appropriate level. 30

Maintenance

  • 10 points available

£800 per month, plus the course fees, for students on courses of less than 12 months.

£9,600 to cover the first year, plus the course fees, for students on courses of more than 12 months.

£535 per month per dependant.

10
