Enquiries in India

This page explains how you make a general enquiry about UK visas, or enquire about the progress of your visa application, in India.

Enquiries about your visa application

You can check the progress of your application by using the VFS Global 'track your application' service.

Our service standards say that we will process 90 per cent of non-settlement applications within 3 weeks. 98 per cent within 6 weeks and 100 per cent within 12 weeks and 95 per cent of settlement applications within 12 weeks and 100 per cent within 24 weeks of the application date.

If you are still waiting for a decision on your application after this time has passed, please email the UK Border Agency in India at the following email address:

North and East India: visqry.newdelhi@fco.gov.uk

West India: mumbai.visaenquiries@fco.gov.uk

South India: chennai.visaenquiry@fco.gov.uk

Please do not email the UK Border Agency unless you have been waiting longer than the time stated above for a decision. The UK Border Agency will not respond to your enquiry unless this time has passed.

If you are asking about someone else's application on their behalf, you must send us their written consent before we can disclose any information to you. Under the Data Protection Act, we cannot share information about a person with anyone else unless required to do so by law, or with the person's consent.

We cannot prioritise your visa application unless there are exceptional, medial or compassionate circumstances. The visa application centre page contains more information.

General visa enquiries

If you have a general question about UK visas or the visa application process, you can phone or email the VFS call centre. Information about the call centre is available on the VFS Global in India website.

Staff at the call centre cannot give immigration advice, and cannot give you any information about the progress of your application after it has been sent to us. The information they provide is taken from this website.
